Hearing begins in Kanishka bombing case

TORONTO: A two-day public hearing into the 1985 bombing of the Air India plane Kanishka that killed 329 people began on Thursday.

After the hearing, the Air India public inquiry commission, headed by Justice John Major, will start working on the final report, which is likely to be submitted this spring. The commission would give recommendations on how to prevent such tragedies.

Mr. Justice Major will hear the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canadian Intelligence Security Service and Toronto University professor Sherene Razack.

Though some relatives of the victims were also expected to make their submissions, they decided against it. — PTI
