TIRUCHI: Three corporation health centres in the city would get ultrasound scan machines by month end, City Health Officer P. Sivanesan said on Thursday. Speaking on the sidelines of the release of a CD on maternal health care, Mr. Sivanesan said that with the addition of three new machines at Srirangam, Beemanagar and E. B. Road, their number would add up to four, including the one at the health centre in Woraiyur. Corporation hospitals have been taking steps to increase the awareness among the rural mothers on the importance of screening for haemoglobin, blood sugar and HIV. Tests must become an integral part of maternity care, he told the students of Dr. G. Sakunthala College of Nursing. Two CDs – one on antenatal tests to be done in pregnant women and the other on postnatal care were released.
