BERHAMPUR: Players of Andhra Pradesh shined in the under-16 All India Tennis Tournament, super series of the ITA that concluded in the city on Thursday. Ganjam District Tennis Association and Union Club of the city had organised this tournament. Due to the damages caused to the clay courts at the union club due to rains, the finals of the tournament were played at the tennis courts in the Army Air Defence College Campus at Gopalpur. The players from Andhra Pradesh excelled in all groups of the tournament. The local crowd cheered when Siuli Upadhyay from Orissa with her partner Surya Tejaswini from Andhra won the girls’ doubles final. They defeated the pair comprising of Sai Samhita of Tamil Nadu and J.Dundipriya of Andhra. Dundipriya drew the attention of tennis coaches as she also won the girls’ singles final. She defeated Iti Mehta of Gujarat in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. S.V.Abhisek of Andhra was the boys’ singles champion. He defeated Pradeep Reddy of his own State to win the title. S.Kanwar of Gujarat and Rupam Gogoi of Assam paired off to win the boys’ doubles event.
