Naik has received four stitches and is out of danger, hospital sources said CUTTACK: Furious over a silly sporting rivalry, a class X student of a Kendrapada school assaulted a junior student of the same school with a sharp weapon on Wednesday evening. Nihar Ranjan Naik, a class IX student of Balia High School is now admitted in the Kendrapada hospital with a deep cut in his throat. Naik has received four stitches and is out of danger, hospital sources said. Heated argumentThe senior student attacked Naik near a market place following a heated argument over a sports event held during the school annual sports last week. Both had participated in the same sports event in which the junior student pipped his senior to win it. Sources said the two schoolmates were at loggerheads since long for their sporting rivalry. Although, the victim’s father has lodged a complaint in the local police station, the police are yet to register a case as the school management is trying to negotiate with the guardians of the students for an amicable settlement of their rivalry. It was learnt that the victim’s guardian are planning to withdraw the complaint with a view not to spoil the career of a school student who in a fit of rage has committed the crime.
