TIRUPUR: A Hindu Munnani activist on Wednesday tried to climb atop a high tension electricity tower at Pandiyan Nagar, here in protest against the Government’s recent move making 1st of Tamil month Thai as Tamil New Year instead of Chithirai 1. According to the Fire and Rescue Services Personnel, worker of a printing unit, Kannan (43), who has been residing at Kumaran Colony here tried to climb atop a 70-ft tower. He threatened to jump from the top if the Government did not withdraw its decision. Personnel from Fire and Rescue Service Department and police rushed to the spot and spread a safety net to save him if he were to jump from there. A constable of fire and rescue services and another person later brought him down.
