School student commits suicide

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A Std. VI student Praveen Kumar committed suicide by setting himself afire in his house in Madhapur on Thursday, the police said.

The boy’s parents and relatives staged a demonstration at Sri Sai Chaitanya School at Vivekanandanagar of Sanathnagar. Kumar’s father Chandraiah lodged a complaint with the police. He expressed doubt that his son might have resorted to the extreme step worried over heavy home work.

However, the Madhapur police registered a case of suspicious death under section 174 of Criminal Procedure Code. “We’ll alter the sections of law if any evidence is found against the school teachers,” the Inspector N. Bhujanga Rao said.

The boy left for the school around 8 a.m. Within 30 minutes, he returned home. His father and mother were away at work then. After some time, the neighbours saw him running out engulfed in flames. They doused the blazes and shifted him to a nearby hospital. But by then, the boy succumbed to burns.
