Nine ABVP workers held
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: Activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and Bajrang Dal tried to disrupt Valentine’s Day celebrations at some parts of the city even as police took into custody some of them.
Nine ABVP workers were arrested for allegedly barging into greeting cards shop at Nallakunta, stealing some cards and burning the same at Narayanaguda. A case of trespass, theft and criminal intimidation was registered against them. Five other ABVP workers were taken into preventive custody when they tried to scare away flower vendors near NCC office at Osmania University. The Madhapur police arrested three Bajrang Dal activists when they allegedly damaged an arch erected at Shilparamam. Another group of ABVP workers was taken into preventive custody by the Vanasthalipuram police when it barged into the Fly-Tech Aviation Academy where a FM radio station organised ‘joy ride’ for best couple in connection with Valentine’s Day. At Osmania University campus, the ABVP activists went around the parks. However, the police stepped up patrolling in the area to ensure protestors did not attack the couples.
