AP Genco to add 8,945 megawats to State grid in a few years

Cement price reduction a distant possibility

HYDERABAD: Farmers under all large lift irrigation schemes serving an ayacut of 10,000 acres and above will be spared from levy of charges as they will be operated and maintained by the Government and provided 16 hours’ supply.

Responding to a query tabled by A. Revanth Reddy (Telugu Desam) in the Legislative Council on Thursday, Major Irrigation Minister P. Lakshmaiah said the power requirement of the 23 big lift schemes sanctioned so far was such that they would require an installed capacity of 6,407 MW. “However, they will not face any problem on this count as AP Genco plans to add a capacity of 8,945 MW to the State grid in the next few years”. Endowments Minister J. Ratnakar Rao informed G. Rudraraju (Congress) that a chief security officer had been appointed to oversee security arrangements in all the major temples. The Minister offered to increase the number of guards posted at Lakshminarasimhaswamy temple at Antarvedi in East Godavari district.Infrastructure Minister M. Venkataramana Rao informed B. Kamalaker Rao (Congress) that RITES had been asked conduct a techno-economic feasibility study on the proposal and submit a report by April. Members sought development of waterways between Vijayawada and Wazirabad and Bhadrachalam and Rajahmundry.

Major Industries Minister J. Geetha Reddy said that the Government may not reduce the price of cement as it was not a controlled item falling under the purview of the Essential Commodities Act.
