HYDERABAD: Ridiculing Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s claims that the Congress high command would take a final decision on Telangana and development would continue till then, the Telugu Desam Party and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) have alleged that these claims were aimed at “cheating” the people of the region yet again. Both parties accused the Congress of adopting “double standards and a deceitful attitude” on separate Telangana and warned that it would face the consequences in the elections if it did not come clear on its stand on the issue. The Congress which sought the opinion of other parties was yet to give its own to the UPA sub-committee headed by Pranab Mukherjee. Sole agendaIn a spirited speech, TDP deputy leader T. Devender Goud alleged that the Congress could go to any extent in misleading people of Telangana for political gains. “The Congress and the TRS, which is born with the sole agenda of bifurcation of the State, should come out clear on the agreements of their affair at least on the Valentine’s Day,” he said. He criticised the Congress leaders for engineering split in the TRS, but cautioned that people were “watching the designs” and would not allow Congressmen to enter Telangana. Narrating instances of injustice to Telangana, Mr. Goud said Pothireddypadu head regulator, aimed at diversion of water to Rayalaseema, was a classic instance as was the Pulichintala. He said the Government was showing keen interest in executing the Polavaram project but not the Inchampalli project that would serve Telangana. Complicating mattersTRS member T. Harish Rao said it was Congress that was complicating matters by interpreting consensus on Telenanga to mean concurrence in spite of the fact that a majority of the political parties were in favour of it. He ridiculed the Chief Minister’s claim that Intelligence Bureau’s reports indicated that separate Telangana would strengthen naxalism. He said the Telangana Rashtra Samiti was confident of addressing the issue once Telangana state was formed. Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy was spending nearly Rs. 10,000 crore for development of native Kadapa district but not even half this amount on any districts of the Telangana region.
