Hike unwarranted, says Jayalalithaa

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa has criticised the Centre’s move to increase petrol and diesel prices once again.

She said a hike in fuel prices would lead to an increase in the prices of all commodities and thereby affect the common man.

Ms. Jayalalithaa said the Re. 1 hike in diesel prices would particularly affect farmers using pump-sets, traders who have to transport their goods to the market. She charged that a hike in the fuel prices would have a negative impact on the country’s economic growth.

It would have been possible to prevent price rise by reducing the customs and excise levies on petrol, she said.
