Charge sheets will be filed soon against those involved in attacks: Deshmukh
|
MUMBAI: After days of tension and a day after the arrest of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray and Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi, Mumbai remained calm and quiet on Thursday.
Police sources said that no untoward incident took place in the city but the police maintained visible presence in all localities and suburbs. The Police Commissioner sent SMS to thousands of citizens urging them “not to believe rumours and sensational news by certain agency.”
A watchman of an industrial unit near Nashik, who hailed from Bihar, died in stone-pelting.
The mob also attacked a police officer who rushed to the spot.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Congress president Gurudas Kamat and other party members called on Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and submitted a letter demanding suspension of senior police officers and a departmental inquiry against them for dereliction of duty.
Later, Mr. Deshmukh said in a statement that charge sheets would be filed in eight days against all those involved in attacks on north Indians.
