Ritwik Bhattacharya loses

KUWAIT: India’s Ritwik Bhattacharya lost on the opening day of the senior Asian squash championship which commenced in Kuwait on Wednesday.

The Indian professional, seeded in the 5/8 bracket, sailed through the first round beating Shallan Ahmed of Kuwait 9-7, 9-3, 9-1, the match ending in 19 minutes. But in the second round he was felled by another Kuwaiti Y. Hajeyah 9-4, 3-9, 9-5, 6-9, 10-8. National champion and seeded 3/4 Saurav Ghosal got past his second round opponent Ali B. Al-Ramezi of Kuwait 9-2, 9-2, 9-2. Siddarth Suchde also had a comfortable time. The 9/16 seeded Indian beat Huang Cheng Yao of Chinese Taipei 9-1, 9-3, 9-2 to enter the third round.

However, Naresh Kumar lost to Wong Wai Hang of Hong Kong 9-1, 9-4, 9-1.

In the women’s section, Joshna Chinappa had a 9-0, 9-4, 9-1 win over Wu Zhen Zhen of China in the first round. Anwesha Reddy beat Hsieh Ssu Han of Taipei 9-1, 9-0, 9-1. But, Harit Om Prakash lost 9-6, 9-0, 9-3 to 5/8 seeded Japanese Chinditsu Matsui and Surbhi Misra lost 9-0, 9-6, 9-7 to Christina Mak of Hong Kong.
