‘I am stopping TB’ drive

BANGALORE: Karnataka State Tuberculosis Association (KSTA) will observe Anti-TB week from February 17 to February 23 in the State. The event will be held in association with Shantabai Devarao Shivaram Tuberculosis Sanatorium and Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases Hospital, District TB Association and district TB centres.

State honorary secretary of KSTA, Shashidar Buggi, told presspersons here on Wednesday that there is one death due to tuberculosis every 1.5 minutes in a day. India had three-fourths of cases of TB in the world.

The observation of the Anti-TB week is aimed at creating awareness among the public regarding the detection, prevention and treatment of the disease. The theme of this year’s programme is “I am stopping TB”.

During the week, health education and training programmes will be organised at the State-level by the District Health Officer and medical officers of the district TB centres,

District Surgeon and principals of all medical colleges.

Other events

The KSTA will also hold various awareness programmes. A TB screening camp will be held at Bhuvaneshwarinagar on Hosur Road (February 19) and Gulbarga Slum, LIC Colony (February 22). Orientation programmes will be held at Vijaya College for teachers and students (February 20); Victoria Nursing College (February 21); and at Government PU College, Malleswaram (February 23).
