Three children tortured

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Three children, sons of an autorickshaw driver, were beaten up and given electric shock by the Hanumanthnagar police about a week ago, according to senior police officials here on Wednesday.

They told The Hindu that the policemen at the station had arrested the children on the charge of theft and had demanded Rs. 15,000 from their father for their release.

When their father refused to pay up, the children were abused and sent to the juvenile home before being produced before a magistrate, the police officials said.

The case has now been taken up by the State Human Rights Commission after it was brought to its notice by SICHREM.

The Government has asked Police Commissioner’s office to take action against the policemen concerned.
