NEW DELHI: A 49-year-old financier allegedly impersonating as DIG (Railways) and travelling free on a forged gallantry award winner’s pass for over a year now has been arrested by a Railway Board Vigilance team at Nizamuddin here. He was accompanied by his teenaged daughter at the time of arrest. The accused, Satish Kumar of Agra, had allegedly made more than 150 free trips in Second AC during this period and duped the Railways of a whopping Rs.10 lakh. Acting on a tip-off, the vigilance team intercepted Satish near Agra on board the Bhopal Express on Thursday morning. The operation was jointly carried out by the Railway Board Vigilance and the Railway Protection Force. “Satish got his hands on the complimentary pass issued to his distant acquaintance DIG (Railways) Srikant Tripathi, a gallantry award winner, over a year ago and got it xeroxed in colour. He laminated it and started travelling free on the forged document. Mostly he travelled overnight and the train staff did not press for the documents on learning that he was a senior Railway officer. Even when insisted on a few occasions, he would partly take out the document bearing the Government of India stamp and show it to the officer concerned who would not dare any further inquiry,” said Inspector Aditya Awasthi, a member of the vigilance team.
