JAIPUR: Experts, representatives of leading companies and academicians attending a two-day conclave on human resources here this week have called for steps to improve the skills of employees and job aspirants to bridge the gap between the needs of industry and availability of technically qualified manpower. The two-day conclave, “Young ambassadors: Connecting through HR”, was organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) with the objective of integrating the human resource initiatives with business practices. Over 150 delegates from Delhi, Rajasthan, Chennai and Mumbai attended the conclave. Rajasthan Governor S. K. Singh, inaugurating the conclave, said the development of knowledge society would help improve the quality of specialised education and enhance skills. “The syllabus of technical education should be modernised to meet the emerging needs of industry,” he said. State Education Minister Kalicharan Saraf said at the valedictory session that the improvement in the skills of human resource would enable the Indian personnel to be competitive globally. “More competitive”CII-Rajasthan chairman R. K. Poddar said the CII’s theme of “Building people, building India” had put the spotlight on HR development and making people more efficient, entrepreneurial and innovative to render the Indian industry more competitive. The CII has recently adopted 15 industrial training institutes in the State under the banner of skill development. Speakers at the plenary sessions threw light on various aspects of human resources. B. Venkataramana, senior vice-president (HR), Reliance Retail, suggested that the corporate houses absorb key HR officials as business partners in industries. NTPC General Manager (HRD) A. C. Chaturvedi touched the issues of business ethics, customer focus and organisational in his address. P. Padmakumar, Head (HR), Saint Gobain Glass, suggested formulation of a career plan for the employees as a retention technique.
