Congress, JD(S) share power in Birur TMC

CHIKMAGALUR: K.M. Vinayak and K.S. Vijayamma of the Congress were elected president and vice-president of the Birur Town Municipal Council (TMC) on Thursday.
Of the 23 members in the CMC, 11 are from the Congress. The Janata Dal (S) and the Bharatiya Janata Party have six members each.
After last minute negotiations on power sharing, the JD(S) members decided to support the Congress during the first term on the understanding that the Congress supports the JD(S) during the second term. In Koppa Town Panchayat, Diwakar and Anasuya Krishna of the BJP were elected president and vice-president of the panchayat on Thursday.
