ARIYALUR: The district administration will initiate action against the employees attached to the Decentralised Direct Procurement Centres (DDPCs) found purchasing paddy through agents, the Collector, V. M. Xavier Chrisso Nayagam, said.
Presiding over the farmers’ grievance day meeting here on Friday, he referred to the complaints made by a section of growers and said services of such employees would be placed under suspension.
Regarding monetary loss through procurement of paddy through middlemen, he advised officials of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation to ensure adequate supply of gunny bags to expedite procurement.
Mr. Nayagam assured the farmers that the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board would announce in advance about power shutdown. Areas of disruption in supply would be announced to avoid any damage to crops.
In reply to a plea, he directed the management of a private sugar mill to intimate the agriculturists about the details of the sum being recovered from them for transporting the cane from the farm to the factory.
Many farmers pleaded for desilting and deepening the irrigational channels and tanks in parts of the district.
He assured them that the works would be executed under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme, to be implemented in the district from the next financial year.
The Collector said that the district administration had recommended to the State government to offer more attractive price for maize, currently being harvested in the district.
