It includes a cash prize of Rs.5 lakh Special plan assistance of Rs.25 lakh THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Adatt in Thrissur district has won the Swaraj Trophy for the best grama panchayat in the State during 2005-06. Local Self-Government Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty told a news conference here on Friday that the panchayat would get the trophy, a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh and a special plan assistance of Rs. 25 lakh. At the district level, Karakulam in Thiruvananthapuram; Nedumbana and Panayam in Kollam; Bharanikkavu in Alappuzha; Mutholi in Kottayam; Vellathuval in Idukki; Kadappuram and Veloor in Thrissur; Thiruvegappuram and Koppam in Palakkad; Padinjarethara in Wayanad; and Mangattidam and Karivelloor in Kannur have been chosen for the trophy. The Minister said Nilambur, Pazhayannur and Ithikkara block panchayats had received the first, second and third prizes, respectively, among the block panchayats. MunicipalitiesAccording to him, the pace of plan implementation among municipalities as on February 8 was the best in Malappuram (77.02 per cent) and Chittur-Thathamangalam (61.49 per cent). Among municipal corporations, the best performance so far was that of Kollam (22.35 per cent) and Kozhikode 20.12 per cent). Mr. Mohammed Kutty said the awards would be given away by Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan at a function to be held at Kozhikode on February 19.
