HYDERABAD: A job in the Information Technology sector is envious for many given the hefty pay package and the growth opportunities it provides. But not everything is rosy for the candidates in the software companies and some policies are actually taking a toll on the young employees shattering their confidence. ‘Exploited lot’Noted academic and MLA Chukka Ramaiah says the retrenchment in the companies is nearly 10 per cent and a majority of these candidates are losing jobs on flimsy grounds. Moreover, those walking out or made to walk out by the companies do not carry a positive track record certificate that cuts down their chances in other companies. “This aspect of employment is not being taken seriously by the Government and the companies are exploiting the helplessness of the candidates,” he feels. Mr. Ramaiah says all the software companies are now seeking a track record of their prospective employees and some small mistakes made by the employees in their previous jobs are actually being used to deny them jobs despite merit. “Newly recruited tend to make mistakes. But it is like punishing a man in mid-twenties for his mischievous acts during school days. This should not be tolerated and the companies should put an end to such practices,” he says. In fact, Mr. Ramaiah also raised the issue in the Legislative Council and argued that these candidates’ interests should be protected from the horrific policies of the companies. He says even the high salaries that are projected by the media are actually a notion. “They don’t allow them to form associations thus negating collective bargaining power.” Such is the impact on the candidates that the employment period of lot of candidates is actually not more than five years. This unholy agreement of sharing the employee track record should be dispensed with immediately as it is putting lot of pressure on the youngsters.”
