BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Friday directed the State Government to take expeditious steps to strictly enforce the provisions relating to prevention of animal sacrifice. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice B.S. Patil passed the order on a petition seeking a direction to the State and its authorities to implement the provisions contained in the Karnataka Prohibition of Animal Sacrifice Act. The petitioners contended that animal sacrifice still continued and that the State had not taken any effective steps to curb it. They said animal sacrifice was inhuman and illegal and though there is ban on it, the authorities have not done anything to implement the provisions. The Bench directed the State to issue immediate instructions to the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of all districts to strictly enforce the provisions of the Act and also to take effective steps to prevent any violation.
