Staff Reporter

Integrated management of waste proposed

CHENNAI: A total of 17 companies from India and abroad have purchased tender forms for the project to segregate, recycle and make bricks, compost and electricity from the garbage at the Kodungaiyur landfill, according to a release.

More than 30 other companies have approached the Chennai Corporation, seeking more details regarding the project.

The local body is hopeful of implementing the integrated waste management processes which have been proposed for Kodungaiyur as one package to hasten the implementation.

The integrated management of waste would include manufacturing compost from waste, making pellets for generating electricity, manufacturing bricks from stones and mud and dumping the remainder waste in the landfill.
