KARUR: Cadres belonging to the AIADMK staged a protest fast at Gandhigram here on Friday to highlight the “worsening” crime situation in Karur district and the “failure” of the district police to contain the crimes and detect past cases.
The State organising secretary of the party Edappadi Palanisamy led the protest fast. AIADMK district secretary and Karur MLA V. Senthil Balaji, party district convener and former Minister A. Pappa Sundaram, former Krishnarayapuram MLA Sasikala Ravi, party district deputy secretary Kaliappan, treasurer T.K.S. Murali, office-bearers of front organisations and hundreds of cadres participated in the protest fast.
Speaking of the fast, Mr. Senthil Balaji said that grave crimes such as theft, murders, robberies, burglaries and the like were on the rise.
