Special train to Jodhpur soon: MP

Staff Reporter

Coimbatore: Member of Parliament representing Nilgiris Lok Sabha Constituency R. Prabhu has announced that Union Minister of State for Railways R. Velu has promised to announce the extension/introduction of a special train from Coimbatore to Jodhpur in the next couple of days.

Memorandum

In a statement issued here, Mr. Prabhu recalled his earlier representations and that of Coimbatore Mayor R. Venkatachalam to the Union Minister of State for Railways on the issue based on the memorandum presented by the North Indian population from the States such as Gujarat and Rajasthan.

They had represented that they had to go either to Chennai or Bangalore for getting a train to Jodhpur or Ajmer.

Direct train

To a demand for a new direct train, Mr.Velu, explaining the traffic congestion in North Indian states owing to the increasing rail traffic, had stated that he could provide a special train between Coimbatore and Jodhpur and meanwhile the special train between Jodhpur and Bangalore would be extended to Coimbatore via Salem.

An announcement to this effect had been assured in the next couple of days.
