TIPS: Police personnel and women members of Friends of Police at a training programme in Pudukottai.
PUDUKOTTAI: A total of 200 police personnel and an equal number of volunteers of the Friends of Police in the district have been undergoing, in batches, a special multimedia training programme for further developing their skills in promoting cordiality between the police department and the members of the public.
Two faculty members from the Friends of Police Multimedia Documentation and Training Centre, Chennai, Uma Maheswari and Usha Rani, explained to the participants the importance of the concept in ensuring community policing and the responsibilities and limitations of the FoP.
They said that stern action would be taken against the volunteers of the FoP found violating their limitations. All the while, the FoP volunteers should not be a mere passive guards for police personnel.
Divided into five batches each comprising 40 personnel and 40 FoP volunteers, the trainees had an interactive session with the faculty members.
The three-day training programme concludes on Saturday.
