50 students will be taken in the first batch The course fee is Rs.80,000 THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS) and the Ashok Institute of Hospitality and Tourism Management of the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) have joined hands to start an innovative training programme in Air Hostess, Travel and Hospitality Management. The programme aims at enabling students to build a successful career in aviation, travel and hospitality sectors. Jointly organised by AIH & TM, the largest hospitality chain of the industry, and KITTS functioning under Kerala Tourism, the one-year diploma will feature four career-oriented course modules. PersonalityIn addition to providing basic knowledge as well as practical and operational skills, the course also lays special emphasis on personality development. KITTS Director V. Rajeevan told The Hindu that the course would commence either in April or May at KITTS functioning in Residency, Thycaud. Good responseThe good response to the first batch of diploma course in Airport Handling and the need for trained professionals in the aviation sector, hospitality and travel industry had made the KITTS to launch the innovative course. “The multi-skill training will enable students to undertake any job in aviation, travel and hospitality industries. It will be a perfect platform for all those who aspire to become air hostesses, cabin crew, flight pursers or in any other related sectors,” he said. While KITTS will take care of the hospitality module, the Airline training, Travel operations and Personality Development and Soft Skills modules will be taken care of by AIH & TM. The classes will be handled by the experienced faculty members of ITDC and KITTS. Practical training in in-flight operations will be in Mumbai. EligibilityThose who have passed Plus Two or degree with good command over English and below the age of 30 years can apply for the diploma course. In the case of Air Hostess and Flight Purser, the applicants should be single and in the age group of 18-23 years. SelectionThe selection will be based on an aptitude test consisting of a written test, communication skills test and personal interview. The intake of students for the first batch will be 50. The course fee is Rs.80,000. KITTS has plans to set up a simulator and a full-fledged wing for providing training to air hostess and in-flight services on the new premises. The course will be extended to other centres if it receives encouraging response, Mr. Rajeevan added.
