Informative: As many as 90 exhibits are on display at the zonal-level science exhibition-cum-competition at the Maharani Lakshmi Ammani College for Women in Bangalore. Bangalore: Want to know how energy from flowing water can be tapped? Or what are the different applications of nanotechnology? Then, head straight to the zonal-level science exhibition-cum-competition at the Maharani Lakshmi Ammani College for Women. The two-day exhibition-cum-competition was inaugurated on Friday. More than 20 colleges from in and around Bangalore are participating in the event. The results of the competitions and the names of the winning teams will be announced at the valedictory function on Saturday. As many as 90 exhibits under eight categories are on display. The categories are models for better understanding of principles/concepts of science and their applications, role of nanotechnology in human welfare, water conservation, waste management, computer as a tool in science exhibition, natural disasters management, contributions of biotechnology and non-conventional energy sources and their economic utility. Eleven judges went around looking at all the displays and questioned the students about the projects. “A variety of topics are covered in the exhibition. That has made this a colourful exhibition,” said Abhishek Raina, a participant. Team-mate Thilina Alawathugoda agreed and added, “It would have become monotonous if the exhibition had only one topic. Here, one can see the merging of different concepts. This helps draw students to science and give them a better understanding of concepts. For the public, it keeps them interested in science.” The students obliged and explained the “science” behind the models to the public. The exhibition is open to the public from 10 a.m.
