209 midday meal scheme kitchens to be ready soon Uninterrupted power supply sought in the evenings to enable students to study Chitradurga: Chief executive officer of the zilla panchayat H.P. Prakash has instructed officials of various departments to complete all pending projects before the end of current financial year. Chairing the Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting at the zilla panchayat hall here on Friday, he said that in the recently held meeting of deputy commissioners and chief executive officers in Bangalore, Governor Rameshwar Thakur had instructed them to ensure that all projects were completed by the end of March. He said apathy on the part of officials would not be tolerated. FundsZilla panchayat president Geeta Nandini Gowda directed the officials to ensure that funds did not lapse. She said that she had been urging them to complete pending projects and obtain financial clearance from the treasury. Later, while reviewing the performance of each department, Deputy Director of Public Instruction L. Rangappa said the department could not complete work on school buildings because funds had not been received from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development. To this, Mr. Prakash promised that he would petition the Government to release the funds early. Mr. Rangappa said that this year, under the midday meal scheme, funds had been released to set up 209 kitchens, which were on the verge of completion. With regard to the supply of electricity, Ms. Gowda said that in many villages, streetlights were left burning during the day. She directed gram panchayat secretaries to prevent the wastage of electricity. Vice-president Kenchappa directed officials to ensure that power supply was not disrupted, especially in the evenings, as students had to prepare for examinations.
