Fuel price rise: plea to exempt farmers
Staff Reporter
THENI: Members of Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU) staged a novel protest condemning the steep rise in prices of petroleum and diesel at Andipatti on Friday. They pulled an autorickshaw using a rope on Theni-Madurai highway to express their protest.
Meanwhile, Theni Farmers’ Association urged the Central government to give exemption from the price rise to tractors and other farm vehicles used for agriculture purposes keeping in mind the growing input costs.
Association president M. Pandian stated that agriculture officials could certify the vehicles used only for agriculture purpose to avail the exemption. Such measure would help small and tiny farmers.
