Polytechnics to be developed as colleges

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government is planning to set up more engineering and medical colleges in the city by upgrading polytechnics, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has said.

Speaking at the concluding session of a daylong orientation workshop of “Takniki Shiksha Sansthan Kalyan Samitis” here on Thursday, Ms. Dikshit said technical education was playing a vital role in social and economic development of the country. “Delhi, which has a number of universities and deemed universities, has been keeping pace in imparting higher education in different areas including technical education,” she added.

The Chief Minister said since Delhi has a large number of technical educational institutions, a national and international level certification process would improve the quality of work. She called upon industry to make use of the skill being developed.
