Race for MCD top post heats up
Staff Reporter
Several names doing the rounds for the post “Decision possibly within two or three days”
NEW DELHI: With the formal announcement of appointment of Ashok Kumar Nigam as the Delhi Development Authority Vice-Chairman, the race to find a new Municipal Commissioner for Delhi has intensified.
Over the past few days several names have been doing the rounds for the post. While Delhi Jal Board Chief Executive Officer Arun Mathur was considered the frontrunner a while ago, the focus shifted to R. Chandramohan, Secretary to the Lieutenant-Governor, this past week.
Now in a new twist, 1978-batch IAS officer K. S. Mehra is being considered. Serving at present as Principal Secretary to the Urban Development Ministry, the Public Works Department and the Land and Building Department, Mr. Mehra had previously served the MCD as Additional Commissioner (Health and Education). He belongs to the Union Territory cadre. According to MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta, a decision on the appointment will be made soon, possibly within two or three days.
