TRS legislators suspended till Feb. 18

Speaker adjourns House for 15 minutes

TRS legislators to embark on bus yatra today

HYDERABAD: For the second successive day in the Assembly on Friday, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) legislators were suspended till February 18 for disrupting the proceedings demanding that a resolution be passed by the House for formation of Telangana state.

Carrying placards and raising slogans, the TRS members stormed the podium as soon as the House began business. Led by party’s floor leader G. Vijayarama Rao, they insisted that the Government pass a resolution, ignoring repeated pleas by Speaker K. R. Suresh Reddy. As the din continued, the Speaker adjourned the House for 15 minutes.

When similar scenes were repeated after the proceedings resumed, Legislative Affairs Minister K. Rosaiah moved a resolution seeking suspension of 11 TRS members on the eve of the presentation of the budget.

Addressing reporters later, Dr. Vijayarama Rao said that the MLAs would now embark on a bus yatra on Saturday to expose to the people the double standards of the ruling Congress after seeking the blessings of Samakka Sarakka in Warangal district.

Earlier in the House, CPI(M) floor leader Nomula Narasimhaiah reacted sharply to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s remarks on Telangana on Thursday and said the Congress party lacked clarity on Telangana. Accusing the Congress party of showing different faces on the issue he said it had taken people of Telangana for a ride for the last five decades.

CPI floor leader Chada Venkata Reddy said Congress should come clean on Telangana while BJP member G. Kishan Reddy said his party would carve a separate State, the moment it came to power at Centre.

MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi demanded that the Muslims in the region should be consulted when a decision on Telangana is taken.

“Muslims are the worst sufferers after Hyderabad State was merged with Andhra. We lost our lands, jobs and other facilities,” he added.
