Seek intervention in Maharashtra crisis NEW DELHI: A delegation of representatives of various North Indian and regional organisations led by Nasirpur MLA Mahabal Mishra met Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Friday to apprise him of the pain caused by the recent developments in Maharashtra. In their representation, the delegation members said Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thackeray had spewed venom on North Indians forcing thousands to flee. They said many had been injured and one person lost his life in the wake of the violence unleashed by the party workers. Humane approachLamenting that neither the UPA Government at the Centre nor the Congress Government in Maharashtra had come out with any compensation formula for the thousands who had been uprooted by the violence, the delegation demanded that a more humane approach be adopted towards those who had been ousted from their homes and deprived of their livelihood. Mr. Mishra said the episode can become a major issue in all the coming elections in North India and therefore it was essential that the Congress as a party and as the Government protect the interests of North Indians. He said since Mr. Thackeray had challenged the law of the land and the Constitution by seeking to divide people in the name of region and language, cases should be registered against him under the National Security Act.
