Relay satyagraha on for High Court Bench

Strong case: Lawyers staging satyagraha at Vanchiyoor on Friday demanding a High Court Bench in the city.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A relay satyagraha was held in front of the court complex in Vanchiyoor here on Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. as part of the Thiruvananthapuram Bar Association’s agitation for the setting up of a High Court Bench in the capital city.

According to the members of the Bar Association, the agitation will continue indefinitely till the demand is met. Senior lawyers took part in the satyagraha.

A delegation of the Legal Life Organisation, lead by its chairman Shihabudeen submitted a representation before the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi urging her intervention in the issue. Mr. Shihabudeen said she had agreed to raise the issue with the Central government.

Earlier, Siva Sena activists took out a march near the venue of Satyagraha expressing solidarity with the lawyers.
