Sujay Mehdudia
NEW DELHI: Jubilant Energy has struck gas in Block CY-ONN-2002/1 in the Cauvery basin, a company release stated here on Friday.
Jubilant is the operator of the block, which also has Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC) and Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) as other partners. The block was awarded to the consortium in the fourth round under New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP).
“The new discovery of gas and light crude oil was made in Andimadam and Sattapadi formation in the Cauvery basin in addition to the established Bhuvanagari formation. A total of 110 metres of Net Pay was encountered within the well,” the release said. CY-1, the first exploratory well of the three well Phase-I work commitment for this block, commenced drilling on August 21, 2007, and reached a total depth of 4210 metres. Three hydrocarbon bearing intervals were identified based on wire line logs and mud log data, the release added.
