Congress will give a fitting reply to notice: Singhvi

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Friday said that it would give a “strong and fitting” reply to the notice issued by the Election Commission to party president Sonia Gandhi on the controversy over her accepting the ‘Order of Leopold’ from the King of Belgium in November 2006.

Reacting to the notice on an allegation that Ms. Gandhi had incurred disqualification as MP by accepting that Order, AICC spokesman Abhishek Singhvi said any adjudicating authority had to act as a filter at the threshold in “weeding out the frivolous from the relevant, the ridiculous from the divine.” “It has to sift the chaff from the grain and see whether there is an actionable case even for a notice.”
