NEW DELHI: A court here on Saturday allowed a test identification parade of the Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector who allegedly let off one of the prime accused in the multi-crore kidney racket after extorting money from him. Allowing a plea of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police, Metropolitan Magistrate Chandra Shekhar directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to produce ASI Ravinder Kumar Singh for the identification parade at the high-security Tihar Central Jail here on February 18. The EOW told the court that the identification parade was necessary to confirm the identity of the persons whom accused Dr. Upender allegedly paid the money to prevent busting of the kidney racket. ASI Singh was arrested this past Thursday following a disclosure by another accused in the kidney racket that six policemen, including the ASI, had taken Rs.19.85 lakh in cash from Dr. Upender’s driver for releasing him after he was caught during a raid on his Gurgaon clinic. The EOW also told the court that efforts were on to arrest the other accused policemen. In a related development, Inspector Rameshwar Khatri of the Special Staff of the Central Delhi police has been suspended and an inquiry has been ordered to probe his conduct as the supervisory officer of the team whose members were allegedly involved in extorting money from the accused in the kidney racket. “Raids have been mounted to track down the six other accused in the case. It is only after we take custody of ASI Singh that we would come to know more about the conspiracy to extort money. Through him, we will also try to recover the extorted money,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Satendra Garg. He said the police would seek ASI Singh’s custody following the identification parade. Meanwhile, the CBI carried out more raids at the residence and hospital of Dr. Upender at Ballabhgarh in Haryana. The CBI is understood to have gathered some documents.
