ALAPPUZHA: The stance of the Congress that it would not demand the Centre to repeal the hike in petrol/diesel prices and that of the Left parties who had ‘allowed’ the UPA government to go ahead with the hikes were both against public interest, Janata Dal (U) State general secretary P.J. Kurian has said. He said there was no excuse for the government to cite. The consequences of the international changes in the petroleum sector should not be passed on to the public. Central taxes and levies should be adjusted, he said. The Left should have adopted a strong stance instead of opposing it now.
