ALAPPUZHA: Communist Party of India State secretariat member T. Purushottaman has said the rights of minorities should not be misused to exploit the student community. Inaugurating the 40th district conference of the All-India Students Federation (AISF) here on Saturday, Mr. Purushottaman said attempts by certain sections to bargain with the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, using their minority status, to gain profits from the education sector would be in vain. The United Democratic Front (UDF), which was assisting such vested interests, had ensured that the common man could no longer afford education in the State. This had led to the front’s ouster from power during the last elections. The two-day conference, which has 250 delegates from the 11 constituencies in the district, focuses on the eradication of violent politics from campuses in the State. CPI State council member T.J. Anjalose, AISF State president R. Sajilal and others spoke.
