HASSAN: President of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Narayana Gowda has said that the statement of Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) Shankar Bidari that protesters damaging public property would be treated as terrorists, will not divert their energies from the chosen goals. He was addressing presspersons here on Friday. Reacting to Mr. Bidari’s statement, Mr. Narayana Gowda said: “If the Government treats us as terrorists, we have no problems. We are fighting for the protection of Kannada in Karnataka and are ready to face such charges.” The outburst by the vedike activists, who ransacked railway offices in Bangalore recently, was mainly because of the ill-treatment by railway officials, who continually referred the activists to the Railway Minister for answers to their queries, he alleged. Mr. Narayana Gowda charged Mr. Bidari with having directed all Superintendents of Police to register cases against vedike activists. In Dharwad, 15 activists, including the Dharwad district president of the organisation, had been arrested. He alleged that the police had taken him to a guest-house in the district and assaulted him.
