Staff Correspondent

Under fire: Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists burning an effigy of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad in Bellary on Saturday.

BELLARY: Members of the district unit of the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike detained the Hubli-bound Hampi Express for some time here on Saturday and burnt the effigy of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad for his reported remark against Kannadigas.

In a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the activists took strong exception to the remarks and demanded that Mr. Prasad be dropped from the Union Cabinet.

They have also urged the Prime Minister to ensure that Mr. Prasad apologised to the people of the State.

The vedike demanded adequate representation for people of the State in recruitment to all public sector undertakings and sought better railway connectivity. Meenahalli Chandrashekar led the protest.
