Work for welfare of people, students told

Staff Reporter

PERUNDURAI: India is not poor, but rich with poor people.

And, for the uplift of the poor, engineering graduates must work, M. S. Ananth, Director, Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, has said.

Delivering the graduation day address at the twentieth graduation day celebrations at the Kongu Engineering College here on Saturday, he said the graduates must work for the welfare of all and for the equitable distribution of wealth. The director then spoke about teaching and learning.

Referring to Sri Aurobindo’s words, he said, nothing can be actually taught. “What the teacher does is just facilitate learning,” he said, and sought comprehensiveness of understanding. “Teachers should portray the same thing in diverse ways, so that students get comprehensive idea or understanding,” he said.
