1,335 petitions at Janata Darshan

BANGALORE: Advisers to the Governor and officials of various departments received 1,335 petitions from the public at the Janata Darshan held at the Banquet Hall of the Vidhana Soudha on Saturday. P.P. Prabhu, S. Krishna Kumar, and P.K.H. Tharakan, advisers to the Governor, received petitions seeking medical relief, jobs, housing sites and land disputes. Governor Rameshwar Thakur distributed cheques of Rs. 25,000 each to 25 cancer patients.

Applications were being received in different counters, which were further split into several sub-divisions. With all applications being fed into the computer, the applicants will now have to bring only the print out, with details of their complaints for any follow-up work. This week’s Janata Darshan saw 363 patients seeking relief. Anil Kumar, a businessman based in Bangalore, has distributed cheques of Rs. 5,000 each to 52 heart and cancer patients.

As many as 243 petitions have been received on issues which could be sorted out at the district-level.

Sixty-four senior citizens and physically challenged people submitted their petitions. Eighty-nine submitted applications to B.R. Ambedkar Development Corporation, 32 to Devaraj Urs Backward Classes Corporation, 56 to Education Department and 18 each to Karnataka Minorities Development Corporation and Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL).
