He had a debt of Rs. 60,000 ‘He was upset over delay in sugarcane harvesting’ Belgaum: Farmer Anneppa Veerabhadra Baligar (35), committed suicide by hanging from a tree in his fields on Thursday night at Hulikavi village in Hirebagewadi police station limits. The incident came to light on Friday morning. The Hirebagewadi police have registered a case. The officials from the Revenue Department questioned his family to find out what had forced Mr. Baligar to take such an extreme step. Nirmala Baligar, 30, wife of the deceased, told presspersons on Saturday that her husband was upset over the delay in harvesting the sugarcane crop, and because of his loan of Rs. 22,000 from Malaprabha Grameen bank. He had also taken Rs. 10,000 in her name from Dhanalakshmi Swasahaya Sangh, Rs. 10,000 from a food grains trader and another Rs. 10,000 from his uncle. The total loan with interest was about Rs.60,000.
