Agriculture fair from February 20

Kochi: The State agriculture fair 2008 will be held here from February 20 to 24.

The fair, organised by the Agriculture Department, will showcase various facets of agriculture and allied sectors, Minister for Agriculture Mullakara Ratnakaran said.

At a press conference on Saturday, the Minister said that the department had earlier organised a farmers’ meet in all districts.

A State-level farmers’ meet would be held in connection with the fair. The meet would chalk out an agriculture development plan. The functioning of Krishi Bhavans would be discussed and restructured after the meet.

The fair would have a rare collection of farm fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers. As many as 100 stalls were expected to be set up at the Marine drive, venue of the fair.

The fair also would exhibit a range of agriculture products and services. The latest innovative agricultural implements and machines would be displayed.

The fair will be inaugurated on February 20 by the Minister himself. Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran will deliver the keynote address at a seminar on farm land and farmers to be held on February 21.

Cooperation Minster G. Sudhakaran will inaugurate the seminar on Kerala and coconut cultivation on February 22. A seminar on agricultural potential of the State will be inaugurated by Civil Supplies Minister C.Divakaran on February 23. The revenue earned from the fair will be utilised for the welfare schemes of farmers.
