Court building inaugurated

Call to reduce pendency of cases

BAPATLA (GUNTUR): The High Court and the judiciary in general will take possible measures to quicken the process of justice in the courts in Guntur district, which is known for Satyagrahas in the pre-independence era, said Chief Justice Anil Ramesh Deve here on Saturday. After inaugurating a court building here, he said that finally truth would only prevail, but process of providing justice was getting delayed.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, he said that in the Bapatla court alone 2,000 cases were pending and appealed to the lawyers and judges to bring down the pendency of cases to below 1,000 at the earliest.

Providing infrastructure alone would not help, but the judges and lawyers had to cooperate with each other to improve the situation. The Guntur district Portfolio Judge and High Court Judge B. Prakash Rao said that while a majority of cases in the district pertained to land and property issues in the past, now it was white-collar crimes and cyber crimes.

Advice to lawyers

He advised lawyers to equip themselves with the Acts and provisions related to these types of cases as the circle of crime had widened and more number of cases of that nature were getting registered. District Collector Mohammed Ali Rafath said that courts were temples of justice and supported the viewpoint of the Chief Justice that quickening of disposal of cases in the courts would provide succour to people.
