Centre closely monitoring Orissa situation

Staff Reporter

RAMANATHAPURAM: The Central government is closely monitoring the situation in Orissa, where naxals killed at least 14 persons including 13 policemen and took away a huge quantity of arms and ammunitions, said Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaishwal.

Report sought

Speaking to The Hindu at Kilakarai near here, where he attended a function at a college, on Saturday he said he had sought a detailed report about the incident. The ministry would be in touch with the Orissa government. The way they launched the attack against the police and other details had to be studied.

Condemning the attack, Mr. Jaishwal said the Centre would extend all necessary help to the State government to contain the activities of naxalite terrorists.
