Early voting begins in Russia

MOSCOW: Early voting to elect a new Russian President has already begun in the country’s remote and hard-to-reach areas, the Itar-Tass news agency reported on Saturday.

Helicopters with election commission members aboard flew out on Saturday for Russia’s far eastern Khabarovsk territory and Amur region to enable people there to exercise their right to vote, Itar-Tass said.

Around 4,500 people have the right to vote earlier in the Khabarovsk territory, the election commission said.

Among the voters are meteorologists at mountain and taiga stations, reindeer breeders, hunters and residents in the northern areas of the territory. — Xinhua
