St. Joseph’s Engineering is overall champion

Ramanathapuram: Three more new meet records were set in the three-day 26th TIES athletics meet, which concluded at the Mohamed Sathak Engineering College ground, Kilakarai on Saturday.

St. Joseph’s Engineering College, Chennai won the overall championship with a total of 273.5 points, while Adhiyaman College of Engineering finished second with a total of 164 points.

The results (winners only): Men: 200m: Hemanth Kirulkar (St. Joseph’s) 22.9s; 400m: U. Navabarath (Adiyaman) 51.4s; 800m: U. Navabarath (Adiyaman) 1:59.6s; 5000m: A. Thirunagar beats Canara Bank

Thirunagar Cricket Club beat Canara Bank Cricket Club by 113 runs in the Canara Bank-MDCA second division league at Madurai on Saturday.

The scores: Thirunagar CC 158 for eight in 27 overs (Jayamoorthy 40) bt Canara Bank 45 in 14 overs; Modern Golden Star CC 101 for two in 23 overs lost to Supersonic Concord CC 102 for seven in 25 overs.

Alagar holds John Paul

Alagar Memorial Club and John Paul Football Club were concerned in a goalless draw in the Dindigul District Football Association ‘B’ division league at Dindigul on Saturday.

Karunya wins again

Karunya University (Coimbatore) posted its second straight win defeating SNMV College of Arts and Science (Coimbatore) 5-0 in the fourth inter-State inter-collegiate football tournament, for the Sree Narayana Guru Rolling Trophy, at the SNGC grounds in Coimbatore on Saturday.

Government Arts College beat CSI Bishop Appasamy College of Arts and Science by a similar margin.

Thrilling win for SIT

Sethu Institute of Technology (Madurai) posted a thrilling 68-67 win over Loyola College (Chennai) in a men’s round-robin match of the third Tamil Nadu inter-collegiate basketball tournament in Salem on Friday.

The defeat, however, did not demoralise the Loyola men. They came back strongly to defeat Madras Christian College (Chennai) 80-68.
