KARUR: The State executive of the breakaway Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) has claimed that its leaders would strive to save the MDMK from the clutches of party founder Vaiko who is manipulating the forum to suit his own ends. Briefing the media after the executive meet, the faction leaders presidium chairman L. Ganesan and general secretary Gingee N. Ramachandran said that Mr. Vaiko has lost sight of the principles for which the party was found and was hobnobbing with the ‘communal” AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa. The way Mr. Vaiko behaves, it seemed that he has merged the party with the AIADMK, and there was no individuality in his actions, they alleged. Still, some believed that he would deliver the goods and they would strive to dispel that myth, Mr. Ganesan and Mr. Ramachandran said. Secular allianceStating that they were working to strengthen the secular alliance led by the DMK president and Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, they said that communal elements were fighting him over the Sethu Samudram Ship Channel Project. Some people were invoking the name of Lord Rama only for political ends. Merger with DMKThe leaders also disclosed that there was an idea for merging their outfit with the DMK but that “was not for now.” Such political decisions would be taken at the right time at the appropriate forum, both the leaders told mediapersons. The party State organising secretary M. Kannadasan and others were present on the occasion.
